Massage Therapy for Women and Families

What can I expect at my first treatment?

You will be asked to fill out a health history form and to explain your current state of health. This helps me determine if massage therapy is safe for you. I will then ask you to describe your goals for the massage therapy session. Your answers to will help me design an appropriate treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs and goals.

Then I step out of the room and give you complete privacy while you undress to get ready for the massage. For a full body massage, most people undress completely. However, you may choose to wear underwear. You will be covered with a sheet and blanket at all times. Only the area of your body that is being worked on is uncovered. You will then cover yourself with the sheet and blanket provided as you lie down on the comfortable massage table. Once you are settled comfortably I will re-enter the room and begin your treatment. Only the area of your body that is being worked on is uncovered.

Most people prefer to remain quiet during a massage treatment and a few even fall asleep, but some people prefer to talk. Either is fine. I will not usually initiate the conversation during treatments. I encourage my clients to relax and breathe deeply as I work. I rely on my clients to give me feedback about their comfort level during the massage.

When your session is over I will step out of the room again and give you a few minutes to relax and get dressed. Once you are dressed if you'd like we can briefly discuss your treatment and some self care measures before you go on your way.

How do treatments for children or teenagers differ?

A parent or legal guardian must fill out the required health forms for any person under the age of 18. I require that a parent or legal guardian remain present for the duration of the therapeutic massage treatment for all minors.

Teenagers and preteens and children may not wish to undress completely for a massage. That is okay. I still ask that they be draped under a sheet and blanket. I do my best to applying massage therapy techniques through clothing if necessary.

For young children and infants I recommend only scheduling a  half hour session and bringing a favorite cuddle toy or blanket. Parent participation is encouraged.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not bill insurance companies at this time for appointments at my home office. If you wish to file a claim yourself I am happy to provide documentation of treatments and receipts.

I work out of a medical office called Integro Family Health,  in Wheaton on Wednesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. If you are referred by Integro's physician Dr. Joy Kim they can bill your insurance company.
